vacations

It's funny how you go through life
in a blur of colors and sounds.
It goes forever and ever, and
once you get a break, you realize
just how fast time can fly. Two weeks
of pure bliss and laziness feels
like two days. A whole summer
vanishes with the blink of an
eye. Then, you go back to the
same routine, as you wait for
another vacation.
That first day back to work,
you yearn for another vacation.

sundays

Although some may beg to differ,
my definition of Sunday is relaxing and
getting ready for the week ahead.
To me, it's the closure of the week,
but many say it's just the beginning.
I dread Sundays because it's that much
closer to Monday. It's the end to a good
weekend, and the start of a hard week.
The next day, you must go to school,
work, or where ever you may go,
feeling disappointed that you didn't
get everything you wanted done.
I dread Sunday nights when I'm busy
choosing tomorrow's outfit or finishing
last minute homework. I dread the focus
you need for the next day, going to bed early,
ending a good game of play. Sunday's different
for everyone, but that's Sunday for me.
It's the week's storybook ending.

thanksgiving

thanksgiving is a day of thanks.
there's so many things i can be
thankful for. im thankful for my dog,
im thankful for my good grades,
amazing teachers, mountain dew,
chick flicks, my computer, my father,
books, vanilla, apples, blankets,
just dance 1 & 2, life, freedom, music,
glee, emotions, money, itunes, love,
and so many other things. but most of all,
this year, i'm thankful for my sister.
even though she's a pain in the rear,
i love her anyways.

trust

it's a five letter word.
you can give it to anyone.
it builds in layers.
the first might be small.
you might entrust with them
what you did over the weekend,
or even your favorite food.
the next level is a little more complex.
you tell them what's bugging you,
or even who you have a crush on.
the layers continue to layer.
there's a few people i believe
simply come with that trust:
a parent, a guardian or any direct family.
they love you with everything they have,
you give them all the trust in the world.
it takes years to establish,
but only a night to crush it.
t-r-u-s-t.

inspiration

have you ever had thoughts
you were too afraid to share a loud?
have you ever felt an emotion
that you wanted to share, but had
no one to share it with?
there are people all around us,
but you may not utter a single word.
i started this blog because at some point,
i wanted to share a laugh, a memory,
or even a fear, but couldn't.

the title of my blog, "upon a silver shelf",
came from the collected poems of Emily Dickinson.
it's about life. this is my life, my thoughts...
my perspective of everything around me,
and i started it because i have thoughts to share.
